Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Travel: Don't Fall Behind on Health Protection

2026-09-24

The autumnal equinox has arrived, and the temperature difference between day and night has widened. The National Day holiday approaches in mid-autumn, and there is an increase in travel. The season change combines with the flow of people, and vacation travel health needs attention. Today, the National Health Commission held a press conference on "Seasonal rhythm and health," reminding everyone to exercise health protection when traveling during the holidays.
When responding to reporters' questions, Peng Zhibin, a researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, provided specific recommendations on mosquito prevention during holiday travel and hygiene practices during group meals.
Don't let mosquitoes 'tlink' you on holiday
Mosquitoes decreased in some areas after fall, but they remained active in areas with high temperatures and high rainfall. Dengue, chikungunya and malaria risks remain.
Before traveling, check the epidemic of diseases at the destination and prepare mosquito prevention supplies. Visit malaria-endemic areas and consult professional agencies. I developed fever and cold on the way, so I called a doctor in time.
When you return, do your health monitoring. If you develop fever, chills, rash, and joint pain within 1 month, don't think of it as a common cold. Seek medical attention promptly and inform your residence history.
Don't stop your daily mosquito prevention. Clean the pot bases and buckets of water, fill screen doors and windows, and use mosquito nets and electromosquito liquid when necessary. Wear long-sleeved clothes when going outside and apply qualified mosquito repellent products to exposed areas. Different mosquito species operate at different times, and must be guarded during the day and night.
When having a holiday meal, these three rules must be kept.
There is an increase in holidays and gatherings, and there is a risk of hand, foot and mouth disease and norovirus disease infection. Practice good hand hygiene, eating hygiene and personal protection.
Keep the "entry gate" in place. Before eating, after taking a nap or returning from a trip, add soap or hand sanitizer to running water for at least 20 seconds. Norovirus is not sensitive to alcohol and non-rinseable disinfectant is not a substitute for hand washing. Don't drink raw water, don't eat raw cold unclean food, and cook seafood and shellfish well.
Keep the "respiration barrier" in place. When staying in hotels and B & Bs, be sure to ventilate. When traveling on the bus, subway, plane, or where there are a lot of people at the station, wear a mask when you need to. Cough and sneeze to cover your nose and mouth. The elderly, young children and those with chronic illnesses should get a flu shot before the flu season.
Keep the "health check" in place. Fever, rash, vomiting, diarrhea. Seek medical attention promptly and inform your travel history and whom you have come into contact with. We eat less when we are sick, and our children are suspended from school when they are sick.
Holiday viewing, don't carry on with allergies
Autumn pollen allergens are dominated by weed pollen. Friends with allergies need to be aware that they should stay out less on days when there is a lot of pollen, and wear masks and goggles when they go outside. Go home to wash your face, wash your hair, clean your nose and change your coat. Open fewer windows in your home and ventilate your car with internal circulation.
If symptoms are severe, don't carry them hard, and don't take pills yourself. Go to the gastroenterology department, respiratory department, ear, nose and throat department in time to standardize treatment, and avoid abusing drugs or stopping drugs yourself. (Looking ahead to a new era)
