The "Peace Train" medical team of the Chinese People's Liberation Army took the health train from Vientiane Station of the China Laos Railway on the evening of 22nd to embark on the journey of returning home, which marked the successful conclusion of the 17 day China Laos "Peace Train-2026" humanitarian medical rescue joint exercise and medical service activities.
More than 80 leaders and representatives from the General Logistics Department of the Lao People's Army, as well as representatives from the Chinese military medical team and the Laos China Railway Company, held a farewell ceremony for Chinese participating officers and soldiers at the Vientiane Station. Lao People's Army General Logistics Department Minister Zhandi congratulated all comrades of the medical team on successfully completing various tasks.
During the joint exercise, the medical service forces of the Chinese and Lao armies set up a three-level command and four level rescue system based on the international humanitarian medical rescue of super typhoon disasters. Relying on health trains, field rescue equipment, unmanned intelligent equipment, etc., they organized mixed training, full process joint training, and actual military exercises, focusing on practical courses such as disaster scene search and rescue, batch casualty treatment, and psychological stress intervention. They explored the operation mode of cross-border joint medical rescue and promoted the all-round, deep level, and normalized exchange of medical services between the two armies.
After the joint exercise, the Chinese medical team dispatched more than 70 backbone experts to form four special medical teams. Relying on the 103rd Hospital, 106th Hospital, 109th Hospital of the Lao People's Army and the Military Region Hospital of Attapeu Province, they provided free medical consultations, health check ups, joint consultations, teaching rounds, surgical guidance, academic lectures and other services to local military and civilians in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, Wutongpeng County of Savannakhet Province, Pakse City of Champasay Province, and Shamachisai County of Attapeu Province. They received a total of 6275 medical consultations, organized 11 academic lectures, carried out 9 surgeries and 16 teaching rounds, distributed 203 types of drugs and more than 6500 boxes (bags), and received widespread praise from all walks of life in the local area.
From 2017 to 2026, the "Peace Train" medical team has traveled to Laos six times. The captain of the medical team, Song Caiping, said that in recent days, China and Laos have worked closely together and worked side by side, not only accumulating new experience in joint medical support, but also forming a sincere and valuable friendship.
