In his opening speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, UN President Rahman said that the UN is facing severe challenges, multilateralism is under pressure, and the "trust deficit" is testing people's confidence in international institutions and collective action. For this reason, he has set the theme of this session of the United Nations General Assembly as "Rebuilding Trust, Managing Change: A United Nations that Brings Effectiveness to All". Rahman said that this session of the United Nations General Assembly has six priority tasks, including strengthening peace and security, accelerating sustainable development, enhancing climate action, promoting human rights, ensuring that technological change serves everyone, and restoring trust in multilateralism.
UN Secretary General Guterres delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, expressing the hope that the new session of the UN General Assembly can rebuild the trust and sincerity lost in geopolitics through diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation, and ensure a better, healthier, and more peaceful future for the world. Guterres said that the "Future Compact" and the "UN 80th Anniversary Reform Initiative" provide a blueprint for the future development of the United Nations, and the work of the General Assembly is crucial for implementing these commitments. He urged all countries to unite and find a way out on the occasion of the opening of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
