Hong Kong's overall export value of goods in July increased by 50.7% year-on-year

The external merchandise trade statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on the 25th showed that the overall export value of goods in Hong Kong in July this year was HKD 672.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 50.7%; The overall import value of goods was HKD 677.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 41.0%.
In the first seven months of this year, the overall export value of goods increased by 40.9% year-on-year, and the import value increased by 40.6% year-on-year. The trade deficit was HKD 299.4 billion, accounting for 6.8% of the import value during the same period.
Statistics show that the overall export value of Hong Kong to Asia in July increased by 54.6% year-on-year. Within the Asian region, the overall export value of Hong Kong to most major destinations recorded an increase. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's exports to other regions also recorded an increase, with exports to the United States rising by 92.9% year-on-year and exports to Mexico rising by 48.9% year-on-year.
A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government stated that the value of Hong Kong's commodity exports in July increased by 50.7% year-on-year, with exports of artificial intelligence related electronic products recording particularly significant growth again, and exports to most major markets continuing to rise significantly. Looking ahead, the strong global demand for AI related electronic products is expected to continue supporting Hong Kong's commodity trade performance.
Hong Kong Legislative Council member of the import and export sector, Chung Chi fung, stated in an interview that Hong Kong's external commodity trade data continued to show a strong trend in July this year, reflecting that with the help of the country's large and comprehensive intelligent manufacturing system, Hong Kong has successfully undertaken high value-added orders from major markets with a highly open commercial network and sensitive market adaptability, demonstrating strong risk resistance and growth potential.
He stated that the Hong Kong industry should not only consolidate its existing advantageous markets, but also actively deepen its supply chain connection with emerging markets, fully leveraging Hong Kong's role as a high value-added supply chain service center and "super contact".
