During the Long March, the Red Front Army first overcame five snow mountains, including Qi Jinshan, Meng pen, Changpan, Changde and Daogu. The Red Four armies overflew snow mountains two times and grasslands three times, and overflew more than 10 snow mountains in a row.

Jialin is the first great snow mountain to be crossed in the Central Red Army Long March. At an altitude of more than 4,000 meters, it is covered with snow all year round, soaring into the clouds, snow peaks stand tall, and the air is thin. The weather on the mountain is very variable, from sunny to sunny, from rain to snow, from hail to hail to fierce winds. There's a song that says:“The Golden Gate, the Golden Gate, cannot be reached by birds, and cannot be accessed by mortals. You cannot cross the Golden Gate unless the gods come to earth.”

However high the snow mountains were, they could not match the belief that the Red Army soldiers would win. No matter how difficult the journey was, the Red Army soldiers could not stop their progress. The Red Army pointed out that the soldiers braved the snow and the cold, and were afraid to rest when they were tired, because once they sat down, there was a danger that they would never stand again.

Comrade Dong Biowu, a long-time experiencer of the Long March, recalled his experience of the snow mountain and said:“The air is getting thinner and harder to breathe. It was completely impossible to speak. The cold was so cold that one's breath was frozen, and his hands and lips were purple. Some people and animals did not get steady until they fell into the glacier and said goodbye. Those who sat down to rest and breathe were frozen in place.”

“The Red Army were men of steel and did not fear hard work. The snow mountain bowed its head to welcome the travellers, and a blanket of mud covered the camp.”Successive conquest of such snow mountains is a miracle in world military history. However, the Red Army of workers and peasants under the leadership of the Communist Party of China did it.

What makes the snow mountain bow? It is the firm belief of the Red Army soldiers that they are determined to follow the Party and that their ideals are above all else.

Dangling Mountain is the highest mountain altitude and the most difficult snow mountain to climb during the Red Army Long March. In February 1936, when Wu Xian-eun, the head of the Red Four Army Station Department, led his troops across the Tangling Mountains, he found the remains of some of his comrades buried in the snow, but with an arm stretched out of the snow and his fists clenched. He ran up and opened his hand. Inside were a Communist Party card and a silver yuan. The card read: "Liu Zhihai, an official member of the Communist Party of China. He joined the Party in March 1933." He took his party card and silver currency and silently bowed his head:“Comrade Zhihai, your Party card and your last Party contribution will be transferred to the Party on your behalf. Rest in peace, comrade!”The mountains of the Party Ridge are carved with the sincerity of the Red Army soldiers, witnessing the height of the faith of the Communists.

What makes the snow mountain bow? It is the unity of the Red Army soldiers who "can conquer each other, but can cross the stone together."

Before we climbed the snowy mountain, our superiors told us to dress lightly, throw away all our unnecessary cooking utensils, and carry only food for a day or two, recalled a chief of staff of the Red Third Army. However, everyone still insists on carrying more than 50 pounds to more than 70 pounds, including camp pots, ginger, peppers, dry wood, etc. When the cook saw that some of the soldiers could not walk, the cook quickly went up to feed the ginger and fill the pepper soup. But while trying to save our comrades, two of our cooks fell down. Comrade Nie Rongzhen recalled: "As a whole, we all relied on a concerted effort, helped each other, developed class friendship, and successfully overcame the Cimanjiang." Comrade Xiao Feng also wrote in his diary: "Along the way, everyone developed the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance, and saw elderly and weak comrades to support and protect them. What a deep sense of class feeling!"

What makes the snow mountain bow? It was the tenacious will of the Red Army soldiers who turned thousands of hammers into steel and never turned back.

One Red Army soldier, who was engaged in artillery work, carried a 45-pound mortar cylinder every day, in addition to his normal weight. 'I walked along the snow ladder-like footprints ahead and moved forward step by step, losing consciousness in the ice, 'he said. I had fallen a few times, but whenever I saw the "red army shoes" that my old watch had given me when I left Jiangxi, I felt as if the people of the Soviet Union were pushing me forward behind me. The Red Fourth Corps was the first unit of the Central Red Army to overtake the snow mountain. Yang Chengwu, then the political commissar of the Corps, wrote a poem of courageous dry clouds after overtaking the Qiaomin Mountain:“The birds are gone in the sky and the mountains and animals are gone. The hero of the Red Army, he smashed the snow and ice with his feet.”

What makes the snow mountain bow? It was the leading cadre who dared to shout "look at me" and set a benchmark everywhere.

On the morning of the climb over Chiang Kaixin, Comrade Mao Zedong, dressed in slacks and leaning on a stick, climbed to the top of the mountain. He gave the horse to the wounded and sick to ride on, on the grounds that "one more comrade climbed the snowy mountain and saved a little more strength for the revolution." When they reached halfway up the mountain, when they encountered hail, he told them to walk hand in hand and head down, not to look up the mountain or down the mountain. Comrade Zhou Enlai gave his stretcher to the heavily wounded military chief, and Comrade Zhu De gave his horse to the wounded and sick. Like them, many leading cadres worked with their soldiers in the wind and snow and climbed the snow mountain step by step.

"The Red Army was not afraid of the difficulties of the expedition, but a thousand rivers and thousand mountains were only waiting for idleness." American journalist Salisbury commented: "For most Red Army soldiers, climbing the snow mountain was the toughest step since the start of the Long March." Come from the glory of suffering, to the glory in blood. On the new Long March, as long as we carry forward the spirit of the Red Army soldiers who dared to let snow mountains fall, there will be no obstacles that cannot be conquered, and no snow mountains grass that cannot cross.
