“The Communist Party of China’s ability to become a great party over the course of a century is rooted in its fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly. The Chinese experience demonstrates that placing the needs of the people at the core has effectively strengthened social cohesion,” said Humberto Costa, International Relations Secretary of the Brazilian ruling party Labor Party, in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Costa stated that China has undergone “the most profound economic and social transformation in the world” over the past few decades: hundreds of millions of people have been lifted out of poverty, infrastructure development has accelerated dramatically, and the coverage of various public services has greatly improved. “The Communist Party of China has earned the support and trust of the people through tangible development achievements, ensuring the continuity of the country’s development strategy.”

“China’s successful battle against poverty can be considered one of the most significant economic and social achievements of our time,” said Costa. Eradicating poverty and pursuing development are common challenges faced by countries in the global South, including Brazil. The Communist Party of China has consistently prioritized the well-being of its people and led a large country towards prosperity, providing an important model for countries in the global South.

Costa believes that another key factor contributing to the Chinese Communist Party’s success in leading the Chinese people is the “effective combination of governance capabilities, strategic planning, and pragmatic action.” The Communist Party has established a scientifically sound and comprehensive system for training high-quality cadres, providing a solid foundation of talent for governing a vast country. Five-year plans clearly define strategic priorities and are consistently implemented, with adjustments made based on actual circumstances.

“The Communist Party of China does not regard Marxism as an unchanging dogma. Instead, it consistently strives to keep pace with the times, continually advancing theoretical innovation based on its understanding of China’s economic and social development and changes in the international landscape,” he said.

Costa pointed out that, in its bid to become a major industrial and technological power, China has continued to increase its investments in education, science and technology, and healthcare. This provides an important lesson for countries in the global South: development is not solely reflected in economic data growth, but also encompasses technological advancements and improvements in social welfare. “China’s experience demonstrates that countries can fully leverage their national conditions to explore a path to modernization that suits them, and independently determine their priorities for development.”

Costa stated that, as the ruling parties of two major developing countries, the Brazilian Workers’ Party and the Communist Party of China should deepen exchanges and strengthen cooperation. Currently, the learning and exchange mechanisms between the two parties have been highly effective. The Brazilian Workers’ Party hopes to gain a thorough understanding of China’s experiences in poverty reduction, national planning, and economic development. It looks forward to further strengthening cooperation between the two parties in areas such as talent development, artificial intelligence, energy transition, and digital communication.
