Attention when buying new energy vehicles! Starting from July 1st, two new national standards will be implemented

2026-06-26

Starting from July 1st, two mandatory national standards, "Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles" (GB18384-2025) (referred to as the "New National Standard for Electric Vehicle Safety") and "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles" (GB38031-2025) (referred to as the "New National Standard for Batteries"), will be officially implemented. Where are the two new national standards? Understand one article——

New national standard for electric vehicle safety

The device that explicitly implements "one key power-off" is a physical power-off device:

The new national standard for electric vehicle safety defines the "one key power-off" device as a physical power-off device for the first time, completely replacing the previous power-off method that relied on software control, and improving the reliability and timeliness of accident rescue.

At the same time, it is required that the vehicle can respond to this function through a driver's action (touch, long press) under static non charging and discharging conditions.

New requirement for vehicle bottom scraping:

The testing method uses a 150mm solid hemisphere barrier, with a test speed of 35km/h and an overlap of 30mm. The weak points within ± 150mm of the centerline of the barrier and REESS coincide. The technical requirements are that the vehicle should have no leakage, shell rupture, fire or explosion after scraping, and meet the insulation resistance requirements.

Revise the requirements for repairing and disconnecting devices:

In addition, the new national standard for electric vehicle safety has revised the requirements for maintenance disconnect devices, requiring vehicles to have high-voltage maintenance disconnect devices or low-voltage maintenance disconnect devices.

New national standard for batteries

Revise the technical requirements for thermal diffusion testing:

Revised from "providing a heat event alarm signal 5 minutes before fire or explosion" to "no fire or explosion (still requiring alarm), smoke does not cause harm to passengers", further clarifying the requirements for the temperature of the battery to be tested, power on/off status, observation time, and vehicle testing conditions.

New testing items:

Add bottom impact test to test the protective ability of the battery bottom after being impacted.

After adding a fast charging cycle, a safety test will be conducted. An external short circuit test will be conducted after 300 fast charging cycles, with the requirement of no fire or explosion. (Outlook New Era)
