The reporter learned from Southern Power Grid Corporation that on April 20th, China's first 500 kV cross-border communication and networking project, the China Laos 500 kV networking project, was officially put into operation. This is the largest and highest voltage level cross-border power grid project between China and Laos. Since then, the mutual power assistance capacity between China and Laos has jumped from 50000 kilowatts to 1.5 million kilowatts, and can deliver about 3 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, which is 30 times that of the original line, injecting strong momentum into deepening power cooperation between the two countries and promoting regional green development. The China Laos 500 kV interconnection project will start construction in February 2025, with a total length of 177.5 kilometers of transmission lines connecting Yunnan Province in China with Oudomxay Province and Langnantha Province in Laos. Based on the differences in energy endowments between the two countries, Chinese and Laotian power companies have innovatively established a "surplus shortage mutual aid" power cooperation mechanism. During the rainy season, surplus hydropower from Laos will be sent to China, and during the dry season, China will supplement power supply to northern Laos. By the end of 2025, the total electricity trade between China and Laos has exceeded 1.6 billion kilowatt hours. (New Society)
